The Blast

The Blast is just around the corner on October 4 at Lasada Lodge in Russell, KS. Make plans to join us for this amazing event! The “Bear Man,” a guy who got attacked by a bear and lives to tell about it, will be here at the Blast to share his story.

AND since the Bear Man will be here, we are raffling off a “Grizzly” Ruger 10-22! See below for more info!

The Blast 2025 Speaker

James H. VanSteenhouse, raised on a Michigan rotation crop farm and graduate of Michigan State University, made Houston, TX home in 1994.

Jim quickly took to the Mortgage Banking industry and in January 2021 Jim resigned his position as CEO at InterLinc Mortgage Services, LLC and now serves as Chairman of the Board. Jim’s sole purpose is full-time ministry to go anywhere at any time to tell his story.

Jim and his wife, Elizabeth, are proud parents of three children. Jim’s rural upbringing brought with it a passion of hunting. Since the early days of hunting on the Michigan countryside, Jim has replaced his shotgun and rifle with a bow and has hunted around the globe.

In September 2015, VanSteenhouse, an avid sportsman and adventurer, boarded a plane headed to Canada’s NW Territories to pursue his dream of archery hunting moose in the Mackenzie Mountain Range. The adventure did not go as planned. On the fourth day of the hunt, deep in the wilderness and miles from base camp, he went from hunter to hunted.

Drawing will take place at the Blast on October 4. A livestream link will be texted out for the drawing at that time. You do NOT need to be present to win the rifle. At Cast and Blast Men’s Ministries, we believe the great outdoors provides a unique opportunity for men to connect with both nature and their faith. Our ministry blends the thrill of outdoor adventures—whether it's fishing, hunting, or simply exploring God's creation—with the deeper call to follow Jesus. Through shared experiences in the wilderness, we aim to foster authentic fellowship, spiritual growth, and discipleship.

2025 Outdoorsman Standings

The History:

Five years ago, a small group of men at Codell Community Church had the idea of hosting Christ-centered events for men centered around the outdoors. This vision included a great time of community, winning amazing prizes, and hearing how Jesus has impacted and changed lives through the outdoors. Thus spawned the "Cast & Blast." These events have provided men the opportunity to have fun, eat great food, compete against others, win prizes (like guns, kayaks, gun safes, grills/griddles, guided out-of-state fishing/hunting trips and so much more), and hear about the importance of having Jesus in their lives.
